My goal is to have a signature sound that you could easily point out in a music festival. I'm not sure if I'm 100% there yet but I'm getting closer with the release of this new album. It was difficult when I didn't know what my sound was yet and I was still in the process of exploring my options and creative direction. I was placed into the "girl with an acoustic guitar" category, aka, folk or acoustic pop, and that to me was just...ehhhhhh. Like, there's nothing wrong about being in the folk or pop genre; it's just not what I wanted to be identified as.
So now I push myself even harder to find that balance between experimental and alternative pop. The line is a fine one and my worse nightmare is that I go too far and everything just comes out as one giant blob that no one enjoys. Eek. I know they say you gotta do music for you, but...hmm..that's debatable cause this shit's expensive; I gotta make some kind of income.
Occasionally I browse the web in search for new local artists, and I always hope for that strange bean to pop up, or someone who takes their craft to the next level. I see a lot of electro-gaga style, which is definitely a step in the right direction. People are becoming less afraid to be weird and I love it.
I don't know where I'm going with this. Just a random blurb while I'm trying to finish a song in diminished.
